Their Eyes Were Watching God- Eatonville, Washington DC

Source
So as you continue to follow the blog you'll notice that I'm a fatty foodie. A lot of my friends are also fatties foodies so we end up eating out a lot.

The other night we ended up at Eatonsville on V and 14th Street. It wasn't a planned thing, we were actually trying to catch the poetry slam at Busboy and tickets were sold out. Everyone was hungry and we didn't want Busboy so we decided to just try Eatonville, which is right across the street and happens to have the same owner as Busboy.

A little background on the themes of both restaurants, well Busboy and Poet is named for Langston Hughes, who was a busboy before he became a famous poet. The rumor is that as he was bussing tables, he showed a publisher/someone with money, some of his poetry and they gave him the nickname busboy and poet. (Don't quote me on that)

Eatonville is named for city where Zora Neale Hurston's book Their Eyes Were Watching God was set. Langston and Zora were said to be friends and they wrote a stage play together, they had a falling out and never spoke to each other again. Well this is the owner's way of reuniting them (the waiter told us).

Now back to the restaurant:
As we entered the restaurant the dinning area was splendid, the art on the walls were beautiful. The hostess was such a sweetheart, after she sat us the waiter came by and gave us the whole spiel about the restaurant. I thought that was interesting.

I ordered the ginger lemonade and another friend ordered the lavender, which were both nice. The ginger lemonade had pieces of fresh ginger in it and the lavender had lavender seeds (I think) in it.

For entree I ordered the fried chicken, collard greens and macaroni and cheese (wanted to be safe), my friends had the lamb (which was splendid), the catfish and grits (was recommended but wasn't that great), and the special which was steak, mashed potatoes and veggies.  Everything was good, we actually ate off each other's plate.  The portions were so big we actually didn't have room for dessert.

Thanks Sami!
We also forgot to take pictures, so I had to pull this from another website....
